The Sonobe Floor Lamp is part of a series of lamps inspired by the Sonobe origami polyhedra. These origami polyhedra are often called kusudama and symbolize traditional medicine balls originally made from flowers and herbs fastened into a sphere to ward off sickness and evil.

The Sonobe lamp series will consist of four lamps, three of which are currently under development, so please stay tuned!

I was drawn to red oak as a material because of its porous grain that lets more light through than most domestic woods. The red-orange glow of the light it emits reminds me of how the sun shines through your fingertips.
